Nine Killed In C-130 Crash

A Puerto Rico Air National Guard C-130 cargo plane crashed onto a busy highway moments after taking off from an airport in Georgia on Wednesday, narrowly missing people on the ground but killing its crew of nine.

Officials said the plane, a Hercules WC-130, was believed to be around 50 years old but was in good mechanical condition, and was making what had been scheduled to be its last flight. The crash occurred after take-off near the Hilton head airport in Savannah.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - An official autopsy released Tuesday said an unarmed black man was shot by police seven times, not eight as concluded by an independent doctor hired by the man's family.

The WC-130 that crashed was used during Hurricane Maria for relief efforts, the Puerto Rico National Guard said.

The plane belonged to the 156th Air Wing and was used to rescue US citizens stranded in the British Virgin Islands following Hurricane Irma and ferry supplies to the USA territory of Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria a year ago.

"Please join me in thoughts and prayers for the victims, their families and the great women of the National Guard", he wrote.

New video from a security camera shows a military plane crashing in Savannah near the worldwide airport.

"An investigation is now in progress to determine the cause of this tragic event and ways to prevent such occurrences from happening in the future", he said. "It was absolutely frightful".

Emergency responders are at the scene near Gulfstream Road and Highway 21 in Port Wentworth.

There were no injuries on the ground.

"If he did this area is a giant bomb and this whole (five-mile) radius would have blown up", he told CNN over Facebook, calling the pilot a hero for avoiding the area.

But almost eight hours after the crash, Effingham County Sheriff's spokeswoman Gena Bilbo told the Associated Press "To our knowledge, there are no survivors".

The crash caused a large fireball and explosion.

Boone stated the plane, that was fabricated at the late 1970 s, was for care at the Savannah/Hilton Head airport terminal and had been headed as a portion of the mission. The group flew to the object, known as the "Boneyard" (Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group), is the graveyard of military planes and space ships in Arizona.

An Air Force spokesperson specified the plane was a WC-130 weather reconnaissance plane, belonging to the 156th Airlift Wing. Produced continuously since 1954, the C-130 is a reliable and versatile aircraft with several iterations.
